The Waterloo Region Museum is one of the most picturesque, historically significant venues in the city. This beautiful and iconic venue is the ideal place to make any event special.

Experience the unique ambiance of the Grand Foyer with its soaring walls of Ontario Limestone, repurposed 19th-century barn timbers, dramatic skylights, and the charming setting of Doon Heritage Village.  This fabulous space accommodates 150 people for a sit-down dinner or 300 people for a stand-up reception.

The Waterloo Region Museum has two preferred caterers who can meet your every need, from a casual reception with bar service, to a gourmet plated dinner.

Choose from the Willow Green Gazebo or the Freeport Church for your ceremony. The Gazebo area can hold more than 200 people for an outdoor wedding offering a stunning backdrop. The Freeport Church has a capacity of 100 people and features the unique ambiance of a 19th-century church. Ideal for weddings, holy unions, and commitment ceremonies. Rental of the church includes a one hour rehearsal time.

Photography

The site also features breathtaking views that are the perfect backdrop for photographs. When reserving your ceremony or reception, you and your wedding party may have access to Doon Heritage Village, offering maintained gardens, a covered bridge and historical buildings. Wedding parties are not permitted to take pictures inside historic buildings, or obstruct accessibility to any of the buildings. Note wedding photography is restricted to weddings taking place onsite.

Dress in your best old time costume and come for a unique 1914 birthday experience. Play early century games, do craft activities and visit with the farm animals (seasonal only).

Birthday parties will participate in four fun historical activities in the historic village and farms. The historical activities are followed by one hour of reserved space in the Waterloo Region Museum.

Outdoor picnic areas can are be reserved for an old style "al fresco" picnic on a blanket. Please inquire about food and beverages that can be purchased from one of the museum's preferred caterers. Food and beverages are only permitted in the museum's classrooms and in outdoor picnic areas. All birthday decorations must be placed and removed during the booking period. Decorations cannot be tacked, taped or affixed in any way to any surface or onto tables.
